FAQ

(Frequently Asked Questions)

What is Aromatherapy and how does it work?

Aromatherapy is the dynamic interaction of essential oils with our sense of smell. The olfactory nerves in our nose serve as a direct gateway to our limbic brain, (our memory center) and the hypothalamus (relay station to other parts of the brain). Less than a second after smelling an essential oil, our mood can shift, as our brain pumps endorphins and/or hormones into our bloodstream. Smelling an essential oil can also affect our central nervous system.

Aromatherapy also works through the interaction of essential oils with our skin. Molecularly small and lipid soluble, essential oils can be easily absorbed through our skin into our bloodstream. Here they can affect our nervous and lymphatic systems.

What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are highly concentrated liquids that are extracted from plants, usually through steam distillation. They contain the life force of the plants, and are light, non greasy, and volatile (evaporates quickly). Essential oils dissolve easily in alcohol or fats. Highly complex in chemical composition, they can be used physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

Why is quality so important?

Unfortunately, essential oils can be easily adulterated. Unless you buy high quality essential oils or products made from them, you run the risk of buying inferior oils.

Essential oils are highly complex. They have between 200-500 different molecules. Inferior oils will not contain this complexity. Therefore, they will not be able to produce a wide range of healing properties.

What is the difference between an Aromatherapy oil & and an essential oil?

Aromatherapy oils contain essential oils that have been placed in carrier oils for a therapeutic blend. An essential oil is a highly concentrated liquid that is directly extracted from plants thorough steam distillation.

What are Attars?

These oils come from the Middle East and India. They have been used for centuries to create an aura of sensuality and beauty.

When they are made, these essential oils are infused in odorless sandalwood during or directly after the distillation process. As a fixative, sandalwood helps to expand their bouquet and creates a long lasting scent. Their aroma changes as it mixes with your body chemistry.

What is Jojoba?

Jojoba is a liquid seed wax that is beneficial for the skin, will not go rancid, nor stain your clothes. Therefore, it is an excellent carrier "oil" for aromatherapy.

It is important to use a high quality jojoba that has not been overly processed or cut with other ingredients. Aroma Celebrations! uses organic Golden Jojoba, the highest quality available.
